• 1995 Government of Bermuda assumed responsibility for operation and maintenance of Long Bird Bridge on transfer of base lands to the Government
• 1995 Hurricane Felix damages the walls on the Causeway necessitating repairs.
• 2001 Long Bird Bridge repairs – intended to give swing span another 6 years of operation i.e. 2007
• 2003 extensive repairs to causeway arch structures
• September 05, 2003 Hurricane Fabian caused extensive damage with loss of 4 lives. Causeway reopened to one lane of traffic on September 08, and 2-lane operation resumed on October 08 after repairs completed
